Let’s #StopNoisyNights!

admin 3614 views November 6, 2019

Every checked sleep hour matters for somebody who really needs it. Maybe it is you, or your loved one? What is a night body language is telling us?

Let’s #StopNoisyNights and make a difference in changing global health together and share valuable information about the dangers of snoring on the human body with friends and relatives.

What does this one little human action mean? It can change everything. When it comes to leading world change, awareness is a good start, but real impact follows action and support by not indifferent people. This is how our Goodsomnia Team launched a global movement #StopNoisyNights, to highlight a lack of awareness of how dangerous undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea and snoring are, and how you can support a movement that matters, by sharing our free snoring and sleep analytics app.

Lack of proper sleep and rest due to undiagnosed obstructive sleep apnea and snoring reduces immune cell activity. That’s a concerning state of immune deficiency in some way, and you can perhaps understand why we’re finding the links between bad quality sleep and the risk for the development of numerous cancers. Today, that list includes cancers of the bowel, breast and prostate. The link between a lack of good sleep and cancer is so strong the World Health Organization has classified any form of sleep disorder as a probable carcinogen because of strong hidden health risks.

Undiagnosed sleep apnea and snoring also increases the risk of costly health complications such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, heart attacks (stroke and infarct), diabetes and chronic depression. The latest report estimates undiagnosed sleep apnea in the US costs $30 billion annually in increased health care utilization and medication costs related to these comorbid health risks. As the American Academy of Sleep Medicine mentioned, OSA is a chronic disease that is rising in prevalence in the US. Frost & Sullivan estimates OSA afflicts 29.4m American men and women, or 12 % of the US adult population. OSA and severe snoring provoke an annual economic burden in lost productivity, and motor vehicle and workplace accidents.

“Well, I think that good sleep, unfortunately, is not an optional lifestyle luxury. Sleep is a non-negotiable biological necessity. It is your life-support system, and it is Mother Nature’s best effort yet at immortality. And the decimation of sleep throughout industrialized nations is having a catastrophic impact on our health, our wellness, even the safety and the education of our children. It’s a silent sleep loss epidemic, and it’s fast becoming one of the greatest public health challenges that we face in the 21st century,” said Matt Walker, Google’s sleep scientist. As we know severe snoring and OSA are reasons for bad quality sleep.

At this point, you may be thinking, “Oh my goodness, how do I change it?” Well, beyond keeping a healthy lifestyle, doing regular exercises and controlling weight, we have a few points.

Point 1.

Do a self-check at home tonight. Download our free app – Goodsomnia Lab and make a one-night sleep record. The results will show you what’s going on with your sleep at night.

Get it free on Android here and on iOS here.

Point 2.

See a doctor if you are a too loud snorer. You may have undiagnosed snoring or sleep apnea.

Point 3.

Share our free app among family and friends and ask them to do a self-check at night too. Help us spread the word about the health issue and support #StopNoisyNights global movement.

That’s it!

Everyone can contribute and can be held accountable.

Our team realized we personally, and all together, have the communication platform to act big. But it starts in our private life, by taking small steps and inspiring others to follow us.

At home, we’re mindful of good sleep habits. We consciously promote the importance of good sleep and attention to our own health among friends and family. But we also know that, at work, we can create a meaningful impact on a larger scale. In fact, it’s our responsibility.

When this concept comes up in our team meeting, we were sceptical at first. How could we possibly change anything globally? After digging deeper and reflecting on our core mission, ‘Through state-of-the-art technologies and innovations, to help people control snoring-related problems and educate them about the dangers of snoring for general health and well-being’, it became apparent: We have to act and get other people excited to join.

Through technologies which help to control and discover better snoring-related and sleep problems, we have the power to change lives. This is our company DNA and our North Star at Goodsomnia. This is what drives us every day and unites us in creating the best products.
