Does stress cause snoring?

Stress is when our body reacts to changes. In moderate doses, it keeps us focused and energetic, but too much can harm our physical and emotional health.

How is snoring linked to stress? The link is not that obvious and does not always exist. However, if you look at the common side-effects of stress, like sleep deprivation, overeating and lack of quality rest, it can probably shed light on the roots of the problem.

People under stress often neglect physical activity and healthy sleep patterns. If your muscles lose their tone and you don’t observe regular sleeping hours, then your in-body processes become unbalanced during sleep. These can sometimes result in snoring, and more stress during the day.

Another side of the coin is hidden in eating habits. Some people tend to eat more when they under stress. Snoring can then develop since excess fat impairs breathing. However, the connection is still very complex.

Must-do’s for better sleep quality:

  • Get enough sleep (not less than 7 hours)
  • Turn in and wake up at fixed hours
  • Keep your body fit (do physical exercise)
  • Eat light dinners
  • Avoid alcohol and cigarettes
  • Keep your room clean and air fresh
